Up Close: Hana Ward

September 10 to December 6, 2024

Up Close: Hana Ward offers an intimate look at the artist's practice across three varied mediums—painting, ceramics, and printmaking. Despite its modest scale, the exhibition delves deeply into themes of personal, spiritual, and environmental rejuvenation.

The works on display by Ward, characterized by their tranquil and introspective essence, also pay homage to and expand upon the ethereal landscape tradition pioneered by Henri Rousseau as well as the scientific writings of George Washington Carver. Her work effortlessly evokes a sense of wonder, drawing viewers into a realm of contemplation and self-discovery.

This exhibition is organized by Director Taras W. Matla. Major support is provided by the Dorothy and Nicholas Orem Exhibition Fund. Generous support is provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. This exhibition is in association with University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative.

An in-person exhibition preview and reception in conjunction with the Faculty Exhibition 2024 will take place on Tuesday, Sep 10, 5-8pm. This preview is in collaboration with The Clarice's NextNOW Fest 2024. Free admission and open to the public.
